Today, we had the pleasure of attending a GomSpace hosted event, at the HQ’s in Aalborg. The focus of the event was “Rumfart I Danmark” (Space in DK), with inputs from the chairman of the board, Jens Maaløe, CEO Niels Buus, Danish astronaut/ESA employee Andreas Mogensen and Joachim Finkielman, director of the aerospace industry at Dansk Industri. The event was initiated by the chairman of the board, who highlighted, the boards satisfaction in the company’s strong orderbook and shared his excitement for the future potentials of the company. Adding to the intro, the CEO confirmed that the development of a new strategy (to be announced at the end of H1’22) was progressing, with the board already having looked at three major aspects, including 1) Using a higher degree of standard products, in its production, allowing for a quicker development time, 2) Increased focus on constellations and 3) Developing satellites from a “infrastructure” perspective, aiming to be able to deliver satellites as a service in the future.
ESA focus is heavily skewed towards “applications”
The European Space Agency (ESA) , divided its budgets into four main categories, 1) Science and exploration (10-15% or ESA budget), 2) Safety and security (low budget, and focus is to secure the satellites in space, 3) Applications ( majority of the ESA budget, at 70-75%. It is the segment GomSpace addresses) and 4) Enabling and support (low budget). Listening to Andreas Mogensen, it became evident that the focus is more and more on the “Application” segment, which work to make the everyday life on earth better. E.g. tracking the earth for environmental changes etc.
Denmark seemingly wants to partake in the space journey
Listening to the many expert speakers, representing various Danish orga ...
