Bredband2 is the number 3 fibre actor in Sweden
PTS has now published its annual statistics for the Swedish fibre market. In terms of subscribers, we note that Bredband2 held 12.7% of the private fibre market in 2023, slightly down from 13.3% in 2022 (13.7% 2021). It should be noted that this does not include any contribution from the recent acquisition of Stockholms Stadsnät. The decline was, in our view, relatively expected, given Bredband2's focus on strengthening the margin in 2023, including several price hikes (and subsequently fruitful margin-improvements). Even so, Bredband2 also lost some market share in terms of value, down to 9.7% from 10.1% in 2022. Telia continued to gain market share (33.1% of subscribers, up from 32.8% in 2022), likely driven by 1) deployment of fibre infrastructure in rural area, and 2) the market's continued transition to fibre from xDSL subscribers (-54% y-o-y). Meanwhile, Telenor maintained its negative trajectory (19.7% market share, down from 20.3% in '22 and 30% in '14) while Bahnhof also lost some ground (9.9% market share in subscribers, down from 10.2%, but 11.6% share in value, up from 11.3% in H2'22).
