Peru postpones decision on fighter jets

Peru is postponing plans to buy new fighter jets until the next government takes office in June, according to President José María Balcázar.

The decision is justified by the fact that the deal would entail a large debt burden, Bloomberg reports.

The deal, which according to earlier reports concerns Lockheed Martin's F16 aircraft, was decided by a previous government. Among the competitors for that aircraft are Swedish Saab Gripen.

Saab says in a comment to Dagens industri, Di, that the company is following the process and continues to present its Gripen offer as a cost-effective alternative.
